What is a cedar plank?
Cedar grilling planks are a great way to add a savory flavor to grilled foods. As the plank heats up, it releases an aromatic smoke that flavors the food. It also keeps foods moister by deflecting the direct flame. Chayder Grilling Planks are milled, dried and packaged specifically for food use. They enhance the food and the grilling experience. Delicious!
How long should I soak cedar planks before grilling?
Cedar Grilling Planks should be soaked for 2 or more hours before use. Water is all you need, but apple juice or other liquids can also be used. Check out our recipe section for ideas. Hint: Place a coffee cup or other object on the planks to keep them submerged.
What foods can I cook on a cedar plank?
Maybe the better question is 'What can't you cook?" Cedar Grilling Planks are great for salmon, of course, but try chicken, steak, pork and other fish and seafood. Veggies and potatoes are also great choices. Hint: Start your meal with planked baked brie, or end with a planked apple tart. Yum!
How to use wood grilling planks:
Chayder Grilling Planks makes it really easy to make a great impression! Place the food on the smooth side of the plank, and place on a preheated grill. The rougher side is designed to promote desired smoking. Keep the flames lower than the plank. It will scorch and char, but keep a spray bottle handy for flare ups. Keep the grill cover closed for better flavor and more even cooking. If desired, use other foods such as onions or lemons to add additional flavors.
Are cedar planks reusable?
Cedar Grilling Planks are intended for single use. Once used, the boards will be charred from the grill and covered in the juices of your meal. Even if you use them in the oven, they would still need to be washed with soap - which you definitely don't want in your food! Single use; anything else just isn't sanitary.
How do I use a cedar wrap?
Soak the wraps like you would the planks, in water or other liquids. Wrap the individual portion with the wrap and tie with the string provided. What an elegant presentation - gift wrapped for every plate!
Why is kiln drying important?
Moisture in your food is good. Moisture in packaging is bad - it can allow bacteria growth. Our planks are kiln-dried to a moisture content of less than 12% to ensure the best product.
What is 'clear' wood and why does it matter?
'Clear' wood basically means knot-free. Knots can be hot-spots on a plank, and if not tight enough, can allow the sap inside to escape into the food. Our Cedar Grilling Planks are 99.9% knot-free. It's all about you, so it's all about quality.
Chayder Grilling Company uses Western Red Cedar for our cedar grilling products. Why? FLAVOR!
